The Eltham Orangery is an early 18th century structure and was originally part of Eltham House in the London Borough of Greenwich. It is a handsome baroque building with impressive architectural features and may be the work of the architect John James but other names have been suggested.
The Orangery had lain derelict since Eltham House was demolished in the 1930s. In the 1970s it was taken over by the local authority and there have been several unsuccessful attempts to find a use for it as vandalism and arson took their inevitable toll.
In 2000 the building was acquired by Freeman Historic Properties who appointed us to assist with its repair and restoration. The project required particular care in the repair of the fine gauged red brickwork including pilasters and a fine carved shell niche.
The regenerated building now has an assured future as offices.
