We have cared for Stourhead House and the temples and ornaments in its famous landscape garden for the National Trust for a period of 25 years, carrying out quinquennial inspections of house and temples, and overseeing repairs and improvement work when required.
The work has included the repair and conservation of stonework of Peters Pump, a rustic well head crowned by an arcaded structure with fine relief carvings from the 17th century; the restoration of Alfred's Tower including the replacement of a finial on the vice spire missing since a collision with an American aeroplane in 1944; the restoration of the temple of Flora and redecorations, as well as a variety of smaller projects on all of the garden follies and ornaments.
In the house, new fire separation measures and upgrading of internal doors, the insertion of a new staircase to link basement with attics, and the repair of the west terrace steps, and portico stair.
