In the 1740s Charles Kemeys Tynte began to transform the landscape around Halswell House into one of the finest Georgian gardens in the south west, at least equal to that at Stourhead.
We had been caring for Robin Hood Hut for nearly a decade, mostly in an emergency capacity to minimise further loss when, in 1997, Somerset Building Preservation Trust were able to arrange a scheme to restore this derelict structure. By this time the Hut had no roof or windows and had lost much of its plasterwork. Its umbrello was almost gone.
After what is considered to be an exemplary restoration of the exterior the Landmark Trust were asked to provide a secure future use for the building and we were commissioned to carry out the necessary alterations. We have designed a small detached rustic bathroom so as not to compromise the views and elegance of a building not intended for modern services.
We have also been responsible for restoration of the equally derelict Temple of Harmony on another part of the Park.
