Wells Cathedral

Caroe & Partners have been responsible for the care of Wells Cathedral in some capacity since 1954.

Although the philosophy for the care of the cathedral fabric aims to retain and conserve as much as possible of the medieval building this does not mean that that there are no changes to the building. Indeed the work is never finished and there is a constant process of adding to, gently altering and enhancing the building to respond to continuing changing needs.

We were responsible for the seminal work to conserve the west front in the 1970s and recent projects include the reordering of the nave with its new furniture, involvement in the development project to provide much needed additional space, conservation of the Jesse window and new lighting and sound systems throughout the cathedral.
