Designed by the eminent architect George Gilbert Scott and finished in 1851 this large Victorian Gothic church with a 150 foot high spire was suffering high level stone decay to the spire and tower.  Several belfry louvres were loose, the spire leaked and there was only limited internal access for inspection.

Following a three year campaign of monitoring a 24 lift scaffold was erected in 2005 and a programme of masonry conservation, repointing and replacement was carried out over the full height of the spire and tower.  Steel access decks were inserted over the bells and louvres re-built with internal shutters to provide weather protection.
